Blog assignment: Social Listening

1, What brand did you select? What are people saying about the company, brand or a product? What interested you about this brand or product?

I choose the PETCO brand because my friend has worked in that place. It's good for me to get some data from him. In Corvallis, there is a lot of pet service business. As the largest pet service business, people trust PETCO's brand influence. The Petco company insist to use "strict management, best quality, high efficiency, and honest in practice" as the purpose. So, their product quality and services attitude can be trusted. I am a fan of aquarium fish, this is the only thing I interest in pets, I always come to PETCO to see what's new fish come every week.

2, What is the company/brand's Value Proposition?

The Corvallis PETCO company specializes in designing and manufacturing pets’ products.
We are professional and innovative in providing pet care and grooming. We are concerning what customers are thinking about their pets, as well as implementing customer-oriented strategies. The competitive advantage is high quality and natural pet food and convenient online communications. The customer can easily find what their pets need and make an appointment with us at any time. Our price is more affordable. We encourage and help the students in local places make their pets more healthy. People who have pets or love pets are what we cared about.

3,What are THREE specific things (both good and/or bad) people are saying? Comment on those comments, using some EXAMPLES from social media. Feel free to include screenshots of the social media examples in your blog post

1, One example from Alyssa Martin thinks about PETCO service. This lady thinks that PETCO abuse the small animal during the transport. But she still like buy pet product in PETCO, she said Petco is a business and while they care about there animals it’s more in the sense of whether or not the animals will sell. She chose to not support the animal portion of the business. I do not buy my pets from Petco, but I still buy my dogs and gerbil toys and other such products Petco carries. I think the PETCO needs to show their transparency to the customer, showing them how is your business work during the pets deliveries.

2, John said he Have been shopping at Petco for the last year. he currently has a 55-gallon fish tank with tropical fish. He said The Petco staff has been very helpful with tips and information on how to maintain the aquarium, fish selection, and plant selection to maintain a healthy tank. Also, Petco offers discounts regularly for filters, fish, and chemicals and to buy some items in bulk quantities. This example shows the service of PETCO is to meet the needs of the different groups at a cheaper price.

3, Holly from WI said she ordered online and had contacted the Petco about it. But she got no response at all. The PETCO sometimes has bad communication with their online customer. PETCO still needs more improvement on their online service. Even this is a rare case, but the system needs positively dealing with the customer complaints and comments with follow up and feedback to the local managers.

4,What products/services/messages are they trying to sell or promote?

I remember when I come to PETCO first time in 2016, there has no ornamental fish area. In recent years, ornamental fish gradually rise as the characteristics of their store in Corvallis. There have so many types of ornamental fish from a different country, it will give customer novelty and attracting more customers.

5, What aspects relate to marketing, and the company's marketing efforts? Think about the kinds of things we've talked about in class or that you've read in the textbooks. Cite examples. What's the marketing challenge facing the brand? This should be the main point of your blog post!

The first aspect of their marketing is building the pet's foundation like pet bereavement and pet wellness plans. The second aspect is they are listening to the customer's needs who want their pets to enjoy the same quality of life as they do. So, they are announced by the first major pet food retailer to sell only pet food without artificial ingredients. Hearing the voice from their customer and build welfare for their customer. That's their marketing strategy.
Since the Pet service business reaches saturation point, the PETCO need expanding their focus on Diversity and Inclusion and exploring unique brand partnerships, and more. Try to move toward being experientially and culturally relevant. Then, the PETCO can explore their market to global service.

6, How did the company/group respond to customers? Did they respond? Should they have responded? Was this a good decision for the company/organization? Why or why not?

According to the comments from people gives PETCO ONLINE Shopping, some customer does not get the response in times when they meet the problem of product and service. In other words, the company is focused more on the experience of physical stores. I think they are not holding the balance between their online shopping experience and physical store. Maybe they invest more on store location and decoration. It's more important for them to separate some minds on online staff training and online operating system.

7, If you were the brand manager, how would you respond to customers? Be specific, and don't just agree with what the company did!

If I was the brand manager, I would listen to the customer experience carefully. I would apologize for any mistake company made for the customer. And focus on the solution to repair the damage to the customer. Be more positive to solve any customer's confusion. The bad customer review is virtually impossible to avoid, the manager should let their employee get one from time to time by responding quickly and take responsibility even it is not our fault. The brand manager also needs to supervise the employee's work, and let them report the daily customer confusion they heard.

8, What did you learn from this assignment?

1, Feedback from customers is extremely important. Sales are the lifeblood of any organization and increasing the level of sales generated is vital to growing the business. The business should welcome and pay close attention to feedback from our customers.

2, A firm must be aware of its strengths and weaknesses and the opportunities and threats it faces in the market place. By combining these factors keep your organization or enterprise fit and healthy for the future

Marketing in the news: Stay home of the whopper

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsQ7Wto0FJg
One week before, the burger king made new advertising videos, as we know they always out of the ordinary. Like we watch in class about "The moldy whooper". Just two months later, they are keeping their step and make a new one in this special time. We know it is a good choice to catch people who cared for and promoting themselves.

This advertising video is petty short, just 30 seconds. The only frames are people who stay in their home and salute for people who still work for the country's safety in this hard time. The background music is so "epic" and "grand". Also with their propagation language, "we are delivering! Stay home and eat burger king!". When they exhort people to stay home, meanwhile achiever "maximum" exposure. It is very normal to follow the real-time dynamic and create an attractive video

"Yes, we still delivery at this hard time for people who stay home and we care about your health." That's their value proposition in this video.

If you look at the comments behind the video, people are talking about that "Couch Patriot" and their unhealthy food. Most people seem like only cared about their performance in food production. Yes, they are delivery but people look like walks away. This would be their challenge, I think most of their time for advertising is focus on commentating on the recent news and being a humorist. Yes, their video is unique and new, people all laughing or feels creative about what they do. But after I saw the comments behind the video, most of the voices are care about their food healthy and food price.

But this kind of advertising is influenced people's thoughts in this hard time. Even the customer has a different complaint with their service or food but the content of that video is pretty relevant to the current food service production in this hard time. They are sharing their ideas with the watcher and tell the customer to protect themselves.

If you check their apps, burger king pays the delivery fees on themselves for the customer and giving away 250,000 whopper sandwiches to nurses. And they are collecting money for the Nurses' foundations. So, they help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and highlight they are supporting for healthcare professionals.

This is unique with a positive energy marketing approach. Most of the other companies also using this kind of method to propagandize their idea to people and display the enterprise style, concept and brand image. Like Pepsi commercial staring Kendal Jenner in 2017

What I feel after watching most of burger King's advertisement is they are an innovative company.

If I was the brand manager, I will add contents about how our food is made with fresh material and how our food is healthy.  They need to focus on the common question about fast food, not just share their advertising ideas for customer's hot topic of conversation.

After I watch this video, I think burger king doing a good job in their new advertising video. Most people feel tired of the traditional advertising approach. They want to see something specific and creative. So, sharing the viewpoint about current popular events with the customer to promote their business, this is very smart.

Like we learn from the class, listen to your customer need and share your business idea. In this special time, the customer need not only fast food, but people also need to hear your voice about care about their safety and health.
